Expensive private sector dominates India’s eye care: AIIMS survey flags deep gaps in public services

The findings show that over 70% of all eye-care institutions in India are privately run, while the govt and NGO sectors together account for less than 30%. This imbalance, experts say, has made quality eye care heavily dependent on ability to pay. Only 40% of institutions offer emergency eye care, fewer than 6% have eye banks, and less than a third provide low-vision rehabilitation services.
